Managing the complete print related processes are a real challenge and required a lot of team work, high skilled brain and experience to complete the job successfully. Production (Artwork Creation):
After the verification of all supplied raw materials, actual production begins with creating the artwork while using applying the correct color (CMYK + Spot), Fonts, Cutter guide (Technical Specification), Barcode, Logo, Images, Checklist for Technical information of Artwork and other elements.
Image processing: Image processing is an important part of the complete production cycle. We correct the images, raw files like Tiff, BMP, JPEG and PSD etc. using tool like Photoshop and follow the process of color correction, brightness/Contrast, remove unwanted part / background from the image, Convert image to correct ICC Profile (RGB to CMYK) and add new Color to image (SPOT Color) etc.
Approval / reworking: After the completion of artwork in goes through rigorous quality check process first internally and finally at the client side. Based on the client's feedback, changes are done and final files are sent to client for final approval.
Pre-press / Lithography:
Once the artwork is ready, the next stage is initiating the Pre-press/Lithography process. It's a process done after completion of artwork and before the artwork goes into the printing press. Before we send the created artwork for printing press, it needs to be technically corrected through the following pre-press process like:
Overprints: In situation when two objects of different colors overlap, they knockout. Overprint is been applied on the objects, images, Text, Cutter guide, Colors etc. Overprinting is sometimes used to avoid the need for trapping and avoid gaps between touching colors. Spot colors intended to designate the application of spot varnish are also set up to overprint.
Trapping: It's a process done to compensate the miss registration needs with overlapping the colors a little. Overlapping the colors is called as color trapping. A job may be printed using overprint, knockout, trap or any combination
Bleed: As most of the printer cannot print all the way to the edge of the paper or other base material used in printing, so the only way to produce a bleed is to print on paper / other base material larger than the final page size and then trim the paper. In that case the Text or graphics extends all the way to the edge of the paper it is printed on. Bleeds are used in publishing for graphical effect and for printed tabs.
Layers: Creates separate layer for every specific object, Text, images, Barcode, Cutter guide, Checklist etc.
Swatches: Create correct swatch panel and remove unwanted or un-used color.
Filter: Remove un-wanted, un-used, hidden layers, object, text, image and stray points from artwork and clean the document.
Preflight: After completion of Artwork now it requires the next step of printing, collect all data for preparation of preflight for printing.
Proofing: It's a process which allows the client to get an idea as how the final product packaging on other printed version will look like before doing the mass print production. This is necessary when the designer/client is unsure of the results or when variations or combinations of design elements such as unique photographic or digital applications, ink colors or special inks or coatings, colored stocks or other variables are present that may never have been attempted previously.
Finally, the artwork is ready for printing and then Post-press production processes.
